Until November 25, 2024, it is possible to apply for the doctoral research grants competition for PhD students and science doctoral degree candidates at the University of Latvia and the BA School of Business and Finance. The University of Latvia competition is expected to provide funding for at least 20 grants, while the BA School of Business and Finance will offer 15 grants.
PhD students from the University of Latvia and the BA School of Business and Finance in doctoral study programs in the humanities and social sciences, as well as science doctoral degree candidates conducting research at the University of Latvia and the BA School of Business and Finance , are eligible to participate in the competition. The results of the competition will be announced by January 15, 2025.
The doctoral research grant is a funding opportunity available through the institution's internal competition and aims to support the development of a doctoral thesis for the award of a doctoral scientific degree and career advancement. This includes promoting the preparation of at least one scientific article, which must be published, accepted, or submitted for publication in a scientific journal indexed in the "Web of Science" or "Scopus" databases.
The doctoral research grant provides a gross salary of about 1,000 euros per month for 50% of a full-time workload, as well as 500 euros per month for other project-related costs. The PhD student or science doctoral degree candidate must be involved in studies or scientific research at a higher education institution or research institute for at least 12 months, with the total workload not exceeding 50% of full-time. The applicant cannot be employed or receive remuneration for other projects that are prohibited by Latvian laws or pose a risk of double funding.
Available funding: 1.6 million euros
Academic career doctoral research grants are awarded from the Recovery Fund and state budget funds, and are administered through a joint project between the University of Latvia and the BA School of Business and Finance, called "Internal and External Consolidation of the University of Latvia."
The total available funding for the competition is 1.6 million euros, and the project's total duration is until May 31, 2026.
Second Grant Competition This is the second grant competition. In the first grant competition for the University of Latvia and the BA School of Business and Finance, 53 grants were awarded, with more than six million euros allocated to the supported projects:
- In the postdoctoral grant competition at the University of Latvia, 17 grants were awarded, totaling 1.17 million euros. Additionally, two more projects from the University of Latvia, which align with the BA School's of Business and Finance priority areas, received support.
- In the researcher (professor) grant competition supporting the humanities and social sciences, seven grants were awarded at the University of Latvia, totaling 892.9 thousand euros. Two grants were awarded at the BA School of Business and Finance. Additionally, four more projects from the University of Latvia, which align with the BA School's of Business and Finance priority areas, were supported.
- In the internal research and development grants competition for the University of Latvia and the BA School of Business and Finance , 13 internal consolidation grant agreements were signed at the University of Latvia, totaling 2.6 million euros. These grants aim to support projects in social sciences, medical and health sciences, humanities, and natural sciences. Eight consolidation grant agreements were also signed for projects between the University of Latvia and the BA School of Business and Finance, totaling 1.6 million euros.
