At the "PMNET Forum" of the European Translational Medicine Organization EATRIS, the University of Latvia (UL), together with Riga Stradiņš University, the Latvian Biomedical Research and Study Center, and the Institute of Organic Synthesis, signed a National Agreement for participation in the EATRIS European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC).

EATRIS (European Infrastructure for Translational Medicine) aims to unite the research infrastructure and expertise of European countries for high-quality translational medicine projects, with the goal of accelerating the development of new diagnostic methods and drugs, ensuring their implementation in practical medicine, and promoting scientific excellence.

Participation in EATRIS provides access to collaborative projects in the public and private sectors, networking opportunities with researchers in the field of translational medicine, as well as participation in and access to training programs on current issues in translational medicine.

RSU serves as the EATRIS coordinator in Latvia. As part of the EATRIS Latvia initiative, plans are underway to ensure access for state research institutions and clinical partners to modern research technologies and to attract resources for the development of new medicinal products. Since EATRIS is involved in implementing medical innovations, Latvian researchers will have the opportunity to actively utilize the research infrastructure opportunities offered by EATRIS, which are designed for the development of personalized medicine and new therapeutic methods.

"EATRIS is a European infrastructure that helps translate scientific discoveries into real medical products by providing access to expertise, equipment, and resources from over 150 leading academic centers across Europe. EATRIS also collaborates with national funding agencies and policymakers, offering support such as regulatory advice, training, and mentoring to foster research and innovation. By joining the EATRIS network, Latvian research institutions can take advantage of broader collaboration opportunities and play a significant role in the development of personalized medicine solutions," emphasizes Zaiga Nora-Krūkle, Director of the RSU Institute of Microbiology and Virology.

RSU, as the EATRIS coordinator in Latvia, invites other organizations to join this collaboration network and engage in the development of translational medicine. By becoming part of the EATRIS network, Latvian organizations have the opportunity to be part of a broader research ecosystem and participate in activities that will help ensure the development and practical application of personalized medicine.
