With the awarding of 53 grants for research, the grant tenders for postdoctoral fellows, researchers (professors) and research projects announced in the spring of the University of Latvia (LU) and the BA School of Business and Finance (BASBF) have come to an end.

More than six million euros have been allocated to supported projects:

  • In the postdoctoral grant competition, 17 grants were awarded at LU, the total amount of which is 1.17 million euros. In addition, two more projects of LU were supported, which correspond to the priority areas of BASBF.
  • In the competition for grants for researchers (professors), in support of humanities and social sciences, LU has awarded seven grants, the total amount of which is 892.9 thousand euros. On the other hand, BASBF has two grants. In addition, four more projects of LU were supported, which correspond to the priority areas of BASBF.
  • In the competition for internal research and development grants of LU and BASBF, 13 internal consolidation grant agreements were concluded at LU, the total amount of which is 2.6 million euros. They aim to implement projects in the social sciences, medical and health sciences, humanities and natural sciences. Eight consolidation grant agreements of LU and BASBF were also concluded, the total amount of which is 1.6 million euros.

Although the consolidation process is associated with changes in the administrative structure and processes for many, the vice-rector of the University of Latvia for Sciences assoc. professor Guntars Kitenbergs emphasizes that the ability to do more together than before also in research is even more important for meaningful consolidation.

"We had defined impact as the most important criterion in project evaluation - to show how together we can take bigger steps in conquering new research peaks. I am very happy that LU, together with BASBF, has the opportunity to strengthen its science with research projects worth more than six million euros. I wish the researchers good luck in turning ideas into results!” says G. Kitenbergs.

Grants are awarded from the funds of the Recovery Fund and the state budget and are administered by the joint project of LU and BASBF "Internal and external consolidation of LU" provided for by the Cabinet of Ministers. The total implementation time of the project is until May 31, 2026.
