Bird Days 2025

In April, the Latvian Ornithological Society (LOB) will organize "Bird Days 2025" in various locations across Latvia, the society informed. The program includes over 40 events, including birdwatching expeditions and hikes, birdhouse workshops, events for all ages to explore the world of birds, and other themed activities.

Most of the Bird Days events will take place over the first weekend of April, on April 5th and 6th, but the events will continue until the end of the month. A detailed "Bird Days 2025" event calendar is available here. Meanwhile, a map of event locations, which is regularly updated with new activities, can be found here. Those interested in attending the events listed in the Bird Days program are encouraged to contact the event organizers in advance, as spaces are limited.

"This spring, we invite you not only to go out into nature to observe migratory birds on their migration paths but also to learn practical skills in bird species identification, using bird guides, and improving birds' living conditions, for example, by making and installing safe birdhouses," said Ieva Vavilova, a representative of LOB and coordinator of "Bird Days 2025."

The LOB representative also reminded that the bird nesting season is approaching, and people are encouraged to be cautious and gentle when heading outdoors, as well as not to disturb the birds.

"It is important to remember that a respectful attitude should be shown towards all bird species, as each one plays its own role in nature," Vavilova emphasized.

The Latvian Ornithological Society encourages not only birdwatching but also reporting sightings. Everyone is invited to register their observations on the nature observation portal or mobile app Dabasdati.lv. For younger birdwatchers, downloadable materials "My First Bird Guide" and "My First Waterfowl Guide," prepared by the Latvian Ornithological Society, are available for free.
