Researchers from Kazakhstan use protocols developed at Daugavpils University to study parasites

In September Laboratory of Parasitology and Histology of Ecology Department at Institute of Life Sciences and Technology hosted delegation from two institutions – Laboratory of Biodiversity and Genetic Resources at the National Center for Biotechnology, and Department of Veterinary Medicine at Kazakh Agro-Technical Research University, Astana, Kazahstan in framework of the earlier this year signed partnership agreements. All partners collaborate on development of joint research projects, student mobility and development of join curricula.

Within this visit researchers worked together on isolation and identification of different parasites by confocal laser scanning microscopy. Delegation was introduced and had an opportunity to approbate our recently developed protocols by using our luminophores for investigation of parasites. Luminophores developed at Daugavpils University will be utilized for research needs at the National Center for Biotechnology.

Within the visit a networking with different research teams of the Institute of Life Sciences and Technology took place and further interdisciplinary research collaboration possibilities were discussed and the action plan was prepared for the next year.

Researchers of the Institute of Life Sciences and Technology are grateful to the delegation for lively discussions and is looking forward to the fruitful research collaboration with Mr. Vladimir Kiyan, Associate Professor and Ms. Ainura Smagulova, Candidate of Biological Sciences from National Center for Biotechnology, and to Ms. Lyudmila Leader, Associate Professor and Ms. Rabiga Uakhit, PhD student of Natural Sciences from the Kazakh Agro-Technical Research University.
