The research and art project "Laboratory of Infinite Discovery" has been opened in the art center NOASS. NOASS in cooperation with Riga Technical Univeristy's (RTU) Institute of Water Systems and Biotechnology (USBI) has created an interdisciplinary and innovative project that reflects the current issues in creating an ecological environment and includes a perspective for the fusion of several creative disciplines and endless interaction.
The research and artistic part of the project will be observed in the process in which research is aimed at achieving specific results using a photobioreactor, while the artistic component of the project includes the use of spatial perspective research, which is a logical continuation for the previously realized exhibitions "Waters tell - Daugava" and "Cosmic migration" by artists Krišs Zilgalvis and Dzintars Zilgalvis.
The main activity of the project takes place in an improvised laboratory, studying the technology for converting phosphorus pollution into reusable biomass and further recovery of resources (nutrients, energy, water) using microalgae. The research leader of the project is RTU assistant professor and leading researcher Aigars Lavrinovičs. A photobioreactor is used for research, which is one of the tools used by other countries' space research agencies and polar station researchers to maintain the life cycle of microorganisms. The equipment used in the project was made at the Riga Technical University, and the authors of its design are RTU USBI researcher Mārtiņš Strods (design) and RTU USBI research assistant Arvīds Būmanis (electronics).
Visitors can view the exhibition on wednesdays (24.07., 31.07., 07.08) from 15:00 to 18:00, as well as within the framework of the festival "Sculpture Quadrennial Riga 2024" from 15 to 23 August.
