The memorandum of understanding signed by the Children's Clinical University Hospital (BKUS) and Riga Stradiņš University (RSU) marks a new stage in the cooperation between the two institutions - it foresees long-term and extensive joint work in the field of education, research and innovation, promoting the development and implementation of new treatment methods and medical technologies.
With the resources of the Children's Clinical University Hospital and cooperation partners, the Health Care Development Center is being created, which will be located in a new building on the hospital's territory. The health care development center will be a modern science and research center, the establishment of which will strengthen cooperation between Riga Stradiņš University and Children's Clinical University Hospital in medical education and research. The center will provide a suitable environment for conducting innovative research, developing new treatment methods, as well as promoting the attraction and education of highly qualified specialists, providing the Latvian health care industry with new knowledge and skills. The memorandum stipulates that Riga Stradiņš University plans to rent premises in the future Health Care Development Center of the Children's Hospital in the future.
"I am sure that this partnership will ensure sustainable medical education and research progress, as well as make a significant contribution not only to the development of Latvia's health care system, but much more widely. It is necessary to create an environment in which the new generation of doctors will be able to grow professionally and together with experienced colleagues to develop new and effective treatment methods and medical technologies," said Valts Ābols, chairman of the board of the Children's Clinical University Hospital.
RSU plans to use the specialized facilities of the Health Care Development Center in the long term, so that the cooperation between the hospital and the university significantly promotes sustainable and continuous scientific and research work, which is essential for creating and implementing new treatment methods and medical technologies. Such long-term cooperation will raise the quality of medical education in Latvia and promote faster growth in the field of innovation and research.
"So that our children, who will shape our future, our future generations receive the best possible care, we have sat down at the negotiating table with our reliable partners - colleagues from the Children's Hospital. Our common goal is to provide high-quality education, promote scientific and research work in the field of treatment, as well as support innovations in the future Health Care Development Center," says Riga Stradiņa University Rector Aigars Pētersons.
The creation and construction of the healthcare development center will be financed through international cooperation projects, as well as with the support of John Martin Talley as a private donor in the amount of 10 to 20 million euros.
