Latvian higher education institutions can apply for financial support for organizing international summer schools until December 20, 2024. This funding is provided by the State Education Development Agency (SEDA).
SEDA supports the organization of summer schools in the form of scholarships intended for foreign students and academic staff to participate in international summer schools organized by Latvian higher education institutions. The amount of the summer school scholarship is €1,000 per participant during the in-person summer school period.
Latvian state scholarships are awarded to support summer schools that:
- Enhance Latvia's visibility abroad and promote cooperation between Latvia and foreign countries;
- Are dedicated to intensive Latvian language learning;
- Promote Latvian culture, history, education, and the Latvian language.
Foreign students and academic staff can apply for Latvian state scholarships directly at the higher education institutions organizing the summer schools from February 1, 2025, to April 1, 2025. Higher education institutions applying for financial support must be prepared to launch their summer school websites and submit the information for posting on the SEDA website by February 1, 2025.
Only those higher education institutions that have signed an agreement on good practices for attracting foreign students and ensuring their studies will be eligible for support through Latvian state scholarships.
The application for financial support consists of:
- A completed application form, which can be found at the end of this announcement;
- A cover letter mentioning the contact person's name, surname, email address, and phone number at the university.
Documents must be submitted to SEDA by December 20, 2024 (by 5:00 PM), either in person at SEDA, by post (postmark date), or electronically signed with a secure electronic signature, sent to SEDA’s email at info@viaa.gov.lv.
The evaluation commission of SEDA will assess applications based on administrative and quality assessment criteria listed in the form and will inform applicants of the decision by January 20, 2025. SEDA plans to support 6-8 summer schools, with each receiving up to 10 scholarships. Contracts with the universities organizing the summer schools are expected to be finalized by February 28, 2025.
