Bringing together researchers, engineers, educators and discussing new aspects of biophotonics, the 14th International Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) "Nanomaterials: Applications & Properties" will be held until September 13 at the Radisson Blu Latvija hotel in Riga. ” (NAP) Conference.

The conference started already 14 years ago, in Ukraine, but currently it is the largest nanomaterials conference in Eastern Europe. This year, the focus is on nanoscale materials, with an emphasis on interdisciplinary research that explores and exploits the unique physical and chemical properties of these materials for practical applications.

The conference was opened by the leading researcher of the Institute of Atomic Physics and Spectroscopy of the University of Latvia, Dr. Maksym Pogorielov, secretary of foreign affairs of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, academician prof.Modris Greitāns, Chairman of Argonne National Laboratory Dr. Valentyn Novosad (USA), Vice-Rector of Sciences of the University of Latvia Dr. Guntars Kittenbergs and IEEE NAP Council Vice President for Conferences Dr. Kremena Makacheva.

On the first day of the conference, leading researchers from various fields of nanoscience will give plenary sessions to participants and guests. We are proud to host the following outstanding plenary speakers:

  • Prof. Yury Gogotsi, Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA;
  • Prof. Vladimir Tsukruk, Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA;
  • Prof. Stuart S.P. Parkin, Max Planck Institute of Microstructure Physics, Halle, Germany;
  • Prof. Xiaoning Jiang, North Carolina State University, USA;
  • Prof. Stefan Andersson-Engels, Tyndall National Institute, Ireland.

Although nanoscience and nanotechnology is a relatively new field of science, this rapidly developing field of research is rapidly transforming almost every aspect of our daily lives. From new industrial applications and renewable energy to advanced transportation and clean air technologies, nanoscience is the seedbed for many life-changing discoveries in the coming decades.

The speakers of the conference are leading international industry and academic experts - chemists, physicists, material researchers, engineers, entrepreneurs, which traditionally attracts many local and international doctoral students and young career professionals.

The conference will gather around 300 experts from more than 40 countries, who will present their latest research results during 5 days in 4 parallel sessions.

An international scientific symposium: "Biophotonics – Riga 2024" will also take place during the conference. In the symposium, following the traditions of the previous three "Biophotonics Riga" events, new aspects of biophotonics will be discussed, focusing on the following topics:

  • Biomedical Tissue Imaging,
  • Optical clinical diagnostics and monitoring,
  • Skin optics and spectroscopy.
